It centers around Ace Ventura, who is a detective searching for the missing mascot of the Miami Dolphins. Amongst the 5 awards were: Top Box Office Films (ASCAP) and Favorite Actor for Comedy (Jim Carrey, Blockbuster Entertainment Award). In this specific scene from Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), it’s not very hard to see the clear transphobic remarks. To put this scene into some context – Ventura (Carrey) is trying to prove that Einhorn (Young) is a man and not a woman. Ventura does this by forcefully stripping Einhorn of her clothes, all the way down to her underwear. He believes that he hasn’t proved that Einhorn is “a man” (his words, not mine!), until the camera shows the back of Einhorn’s underwear. Here, the viewers see a bulge which is inferred to be Einhorn’s genitalia. At this point, all the other characters begin either spitting or vomiting, which implies that most of them have been intimate with Einhorn. The entire scene is at best uncomfortable to watch, and at worst it perpetuates the rhetoric of violence against transgender people. Trans misrepresentation is not an old or outdated concept in film – this movie is just from 1994 itself. That’s just a little bit older than I am. ![]() This ugly scene ties in with an earlier archive post I made, surrounding the documentary Disclosure on Netflix. Disclosure dives deep into the history of transgender representation in western films. I completely agree with your stance on this film. I also watched that documentary, and was surprised when this scene was shown. I never actually saw this film, and I’m not a fan of Jim Carey knowing that he participated in a film where a person is publicly stripped of their clothes and humanity, makes me want to never support his endeavors. I’m excited to explore more of your page! This content is right up my alley of interests. I never truly understood the message being broadcasted through popular films that vilified and dehumanized Queer individuals until I watched Disclosure. I notice it is still present in the mainstream today. I feel like a perfect example of ignorance stemming from toxic films like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, can be seen in Amy Coney Barrett’s remarks regarding transgendered individuals calling them “transsexuals” and referring to transgender as a “sexual preference”.Show More In Hollywood, stars are not only known for acquiring plentiful identities, but also several distinctive types of identities, which are determined by the diverse traits of their characters, along with the various characters that they depict (Shingler, 121). Missing information from SteamDB is added based on other sources. This has made it fundamentally impossible to distinguish between the star, the character, the private personality and the public persona of the actor, especially since these distinct and overlapping identities are both exposed and concealed at different moments throughout the film (Shingler, 121). ![]() Some entries have no App ID but they were confirmed by their own devs or the Store videos were found.
